10 Favorite Things to Watch

1. Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad follows Walter White, a struggling high school chemistry teacher in his quest to provide for his family by cooking meth. The overall aesthetic and camera movement is truly beautiful. The way the scenes blend and transition seem super well thought out and very well executed.

2. Sam Kolder

I also like to watch a lot of Sam Kolder's videos on youtube (kold on youtube). Sam is the former Director of Video at travel site and social media giant Beautiful Destinations (@beautifuldestinations on Instagram). Beautiful Destinations has over 10 million followers following along there journey of bringing gorgeous edits from each country they visit. Sam kind of changed the way I personally saw video as it could relate to a job because it showed me that you can do more in the film industry than move to Hollywood and try to make it in the show business. Instead, he chose to travel the world filming and editing travel videos.

3. Taylor Cut Films

In a world of social media entrepreneurs, Jordan Wright was a bit ahead of his time. Jordan got his start filming for artists like Usher in their prime. After years of tour documentary success, Jordan moved to more branded content and now works for numerous brands on a constant basis. Jordan's perspective is super col to me not only for the fact that he found a unique job in film, but for the fact that gets to make branded content for huge companies from a small scale standpoint with nothing more than a Canon 1dx ii.

4. Peter Mckinnon

Peter had your typical small scale job in film: making commercials and videos for local companies when he started vlogging and filming tutorials and uploading them to youtube. He now has millions of subscribers and youtube is his job. This is super cool for me to see because he found where his niche was and is making well over a great living by doing what he loves everyday.

5. Wilfred

Ryan, played by Elijah Wood, is ready to end his life when he hears a knock at the door and is asked to dog sit for the hot neighbor. He becomes friends with the dog that for some reason he can hear and talk to as if he was a human. This show is super unique in the way the stories develop and in how the camera portrays different aspects of the show. Wilfred is one of my favorite dramedies ever.

6. Nainoa Langer

Nainoa is a film maker from Hawaii, now based in New York. While he works with Beautiful Destinations, he also travels with artists, most notably Zedd, to capture stunning tour documentary style short films focused equally on visuals as the story being told. He uses hyperlapses often and blends all the footage to flow smoothly together in editing.

7. Rory Kramer

Rory is a film maker from LA. He got his popularity when he met electronic duo The Chainsmokers in 2012 and began touring with them. He know has his own show on MTV based around the personal side of all the artists he works for.

8. MTV's Dare to Live

Dare to Live is a series following videographer Rory Kramer as he films for different artists while giving insight into their fame or art. The show is unique in how they capture their b-roll. It is all captured from a videographer with a dslr, often times by Rory himself.

9. Harry Potter Series

Ever since I was little, I always enjoyed the Harry Potter films, but as I got older and the films progressed and became alot more cinematic. The final few films had a very developed and busy plot with cinematic, yet very developed and busy shots as well.

10. Jake Baine

While Jake isn't famous (yet), he's become a videographer filming from a director's eye. Instead of shooting with editing in mind, he plans alot on the front end to completely envision his short films and captures them in the unique way he thought of beforehand. While doing this, he also many tutorials from basic things in premiere, all the way up to the science behind color and how to properly grade footage.
